Remote education provision: information for parents and carers
Will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?
We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate. However, we have needed to make some adaptations in some subjects as we are aware that families may not have all the resources we do in school for example, using particular Science resources or learning instruments in Music.
How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?
We realise that every family has individual circumstances which may make remote learning either easier or more difficult. Each child is individual and when in school children work at different speeds and have the ability to work for different lengths of time. The guidelines below are based on the Government requirements for the amount of work we should be setting, however, in reality, what you child is able to achieve will very much depend on their own unique set of circumstances.

EYFS |
There is an expectation that you will engage with the number of activities set by the school. The videos and follow up work should not take more than a couple of hours each day. Please prioritise phonics, reading/writing and maths. |

Key Stage 1 |
The government requires that we set 3 hours of learning for KS1 children per day. We would of course, like the children to attempt most of the activities set, however, some may not complete all of the activities. Please prioritise the Maths and English lessons as these are taught in sequence so missed sessions may cause them to find future learning more difficult. |

The government requires that we set 4 hours of learning for KS2 children per day. We would of course, like the children to attempt most of the activities set, however, some may not complete all of the activities. How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?
For Nursery and Reception please log in to Tapestry to access the remote learning.

How to view activities:
1. Log in and click menu
2. Click on activities
3. Select from the planned activities shown for that day
Activities will show automatically on your feed if you are using the app. Any problems please let us know. You can email or telephone the school or comment on Tapestry.

If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. Ideally we would like every child to be able to access the learning remotely as this is where the teaching takes place. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:
- Please contact the school office is you currently don’t have Internet Access at home, we can help you to get this in a number of ways.
- Please contact the school office if you wish to borrow a device for home learning.
- Paper packs can be arranged in exceptional cases, for collection via the school office.
How will my child be taught remotely?
We may use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely:
- Recorded teaching (e.g. video/audio recordings made by teachers)
- At home practical tasks/ tasks involving no screens
- Printed workbooks to follow up from online videos or paper packs produced by teachers
- Reading books pupils have at home
- Websites supporting the teaching of specific subjects or areas, including video clips or sequences e.g. phonicsplay.co.uk, White Rose Maths, Times Tables Rockstars, BBC home learning or Bitesize links
- Slideshows with teaching sequences and teacher annotations or voice overs and follow up tasks
- Feedback to children with post likes, encouragement or comments either as audio notes or written comments.
Engagement and feedback
What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?
For children in Early Years using Tapestry:
- Please watch and check posts each day. Your child will need you to log them in and select the videos but should be able to do some of the learning independently.
- Please like or comment on posts where possible
- All posts should take no longer than 2 hours in total
- Share your child’s learning by posting your own observation on Tapestry (you could do a post for the day or for the week).
- When watching the posts please ensure your child has pen and paper to hand if they need it
- On a Monday we will post ideas for play for the week, these are optional but are there to support you.
- Fridays may be used to catch up on any learning missed during the week
For children in Years 1 to 6:
- Please login everyday by 11am and get your child to record their attendance by responding to the question in the introduction video for the day.
- The work for the day will be posted around 6pm the previous evening to allow adults at home to see what is there for the children should they wish.
- The children should attempt all the activities for that day, (unless parents or carers have spoken to teachers and other expectations have been set,) however we realise they may not be able to complete them all. Work that is started but not finished can be saved as a draft.
- Even if you child is working on paper, it is extremely important that whenever possible they take pictures and upload to their Seesaw Journal. This is so the teachers can see they are engaging, assess their learning and provide feedback and support.
- Fridays will be kept as “catch-up” days to allow children to go back and complete unfinished learning. Additional Friday challenges will be set for those who need.
- It is really important for children to have regular screen/ brain breaks and continue to ensure they drink water throughout the day just as they would in school.
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
In Early Years:
- Each day we will use Tapestry to check who has logged in and to respond to any comments or learning shared.
- We will telephone families who have not engaged with online learning to check- in and offer support.
In Years 1 to 6:
- Each day the teachers will record who has logged in and responded to the question from the daily introduction.
- If children are not responding we will text in the first instance to remind you of what to do. Following this, if we see your child is still not engaging, we will call to check-in and offer support.
Please do not worry if you get a text or phone call, we have a duty to ensure your child is okay and this is just our way of making contact and offering support where we can. We understand everyone is under different pressures and want to help.
How will you assess my child’s work and progress?
Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:
- We will comment on or like children’s learning.
- We may give group feedback looking at an issue which has arisen for a group of children.
- We may use the morning introductions to remind children about a particular focus.
- Both Seesaw and Tapestry enable us to store children’s learning for assessment.
Additional support for pupils with particular needs
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:
- Children with EHCPs will be invited into school for sessions when we can
- Personalised packs may be sent home or posted in online learning to support children with additional needs.
- Where children were receiving interventions from outside agencies we will stay in touch and ask them for any support that they can give.
- Phone calls home to check-in, this may be from the Class Teacher, Individual Needs Assistant, Welfare Assistant or Head of School for Inclusion.
