Working with others
We became a WWO school in September 2012 as this programme allowed us to deliberately equip our children with the social skills to work together which enhance their well being and ability to learn. We explicitly teach skills in three areas; trust, communication and problem solving. These three areas have small steps, e.g. knowing and using names or random grouping, which are taught explicitly using games, scripts and vocabulary. Once skills are established, the skills are further embedded across our teaching and learning in all curriculum subjects. We have established pre-briefing and de-briefing which allows children to talk through the experience of working together beforehand and share successes and challenges afterwards.
Friday afternoon mix ups
Every Friday afternoon, children take part in activities in mixed year groups. This allows a focus on specific WWO skills through the range of activities on offer. Children improve their WWO skills and enjoy sessions with a mix of year groups and staff. WWO activities run for 2 weeks so that longer activities are possible and paired work in week one can be developed into group work in week two.
Some of the activities we have offered include: art in nature, singing and signing, build it together, doodle, draw and design, top trump teams, brain games and puzzles, maypole dancing and explorers.
